Owls battered and bruised in Vereeniging

The Boksburg Rugby Club’s third side gave the franchise something to cheer about in an otherwise day-to-forget for the local club, in Vereeniging, on Saturday, June 20.

The thirds emerged as 12-7 victors against Vereeniging, as the senior side, seconds and u-21 team all suffered defeats.

The senior side have endured an indifferent campaign in the Valke Peregrine League, and their losing streak continued with the 36-3 battering at the hands of the hosts.

When asked about the senior side’s concerning results in recent times, club chairman Sean Scheepers responded: “The team have been facing a lot of challenges, like injuries, other commitments and player unavailability.

“The guys still gave it their all on the day; set-pieces were a problem, as expected with so many changes to the side, but we’re not looking for any excuses.

“A couple of results could easily have gone our way, but the bounce of the ball hasn’t been going our way.

“We’ve basically started from scratch, with numerous players having left the team; we’re a young team and still rebuilding, we knew we were going to struggle.”
