Addinall shines as top junior sportswoman of Ekurhuleni

Boksburg barefoot water-skier Shianne Addinall successfully defended her title on Wednesday evening, May 27, when she was named Junior Sportswoman of the Year.

The City of Ekurhuleni rewarded top achievers at the 2015 Ekurhuleni Sport Awards held at the Alberton Civic Centre, and this is the second consecutive year in which Addinall scooped the award.

One of Addinall’s notable achievement in 2014 was winning the South African National Championships in the junior category.

She was then selected for the South African team that took part in the World Barefoot Ski Championships in Australia where she took second position overall, as well as silver medals for jump, slalom and tricks categories.

She was also awarded the International Waterski and Wakeboarding Federation (IWWF) Athlete of the Year in February 2014, and is ranked second in the world and number one in the Europe/Africa Zone for the open girls category.

Boksburg’s shine on the night did not end with Addinall.

* Boksburg Wrestling Club’s Mpho Madi scooped the Sportswoman of the Year following her impressive exploits in 2014.

Her standout performance was representing the country at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, where she won a bronze medal and becoming the first ever South African female wrestler to win a Commonwealth medal.

* Ekurhuleni Karate Kata Team won the Team of the Year Award after wonderful achievements in 2014.

This included silver at the Vienna Open Karate Championships in Austria, finishing ninth at the WKF World Championships in Germany, claiming silver at the UFAK African Championships and a gold medal at the Zone 6 Championships in Zambia.
