NWU sinks Boksburg by four points

North-West University silenced the Prince George Park crowd with a 30-26 victory over hosts, the Boksburg Rugby Club, in their Valke Peregrine League clash on Saturday, May 16.

The Owls, who came into the encounter at a back of a defeat to cross-town rivals, the Brakpan Rugby Club, produced a much improved showing in the closely-contested match.

However, misjudged decisions in attacking positions proved to be their downfall.

“It (the defeat) was our own fault, we were our own worst enemy,” lamented Boksburg captain Travis Howell.

“The team is very young; self-confidence kicks in too late. We allow other teams to play their game plan and when we wake up, it’s too late.

“But Boksburg is in its rebuilding process and will eventually come good,” said the skipper.

PJ Beukes, Henry Badenhorst, Johan Venter and Willem Botes dotted down for the home side, with the latter scoring his second try in as many weeks.
