Bikini bodybuilding star Willemse wins IFBB crown

Local bikini fitness model Cindy Willemse took first place in her Bikini Division category, at International Fitness Bodybuilding’s (IFBB) novice event, at the Blairgowrie Recreation Centre in Randburg on Saturday, April 18.

The gold medal position marks an improvement for Willemse, following her runner-up finish at the Face of Xstyle IFBB Platinum Millennium event, which was her inaugural appearance on stage this year, following a lengthy lay off.

The placing also qualified her to participate in the IFBB Provincials, scheduled to take place in August.

Asked to describe how she felt when she learned of her triumph, she said: “To me, victory is not all about placing; to me it’s about your biggest setback becoming your major comeback.

“No matter how tough the challenge in your life might be, it’s all about perseverance: when you get knocked down, stand up taller.

“I’m very happy, honoured but humbled by placing first, as I believe from humble beginnings, come great things. All the glory to God as he gave me the opportunity, the health and ability to participate within the industry.”

The 35-year-old also took the time to show her gratitude to her support structure.

“A special thanks to coach Jolene Levinson, from Tweaked, for prepping me; my boyfriend Schalk Pienaar for helping me; my family and friends at K90 Virgin Active for all their best wishes and inspiring me.” – @SabeloBoksburg
