WP crowned champions at National Baseball Championships

Western Province were crowned champions with a convincing 7-2 victory over Gauteng A at the of the National Baseball Championships, at the Boksburg City Stadium, on Wednesday, April 8.

The KZN Seals inflicted an agonising 4-3 loss on the Easterns team, in the third/fourth playoff match.

The day was the culmination of the senior section of the tournament, which was held between April 4 and 8.

A total of 35 provincial sides from all over the country participated across 12 fields at the baseball jamboree.

When asked about the team’s performance in the closely-contested match, Easterns coach Ashley Scott said anyone could have won the match.

“It was a tight ball game,” said a visibly gutted Scott.

“We played good defence the whole game and it’s unfortunate we lost. We lost the game right at the end.

“One of our runners misjudged his run and if it wasn’t for that, we probably would’ve won the game; but I’m proud of the guys, I can’t take anything away from them.”
