Renovated jukskei club reopens

A new and refurbished Boksburg Jukskei Club held its grand reopening recently.

Upgrades to the club, which is also the headquarters of the Eastern Gauteng Jukskei, include a renovated clubhouse, new toilets, a renovated kitchen, a new committee room and regenerated playing grounds.

The opening was officiated by the chairman of Eastern Gauteng Jukskei, Johan van Wyngaardt.

The chairman of the club, Fritz Odendaal, said the National Lottery provided the funds.

As part of the festivities, a North of the Vaal River Tournament, which included 32 teams, was held.

The Gauteng West District emerged as the day’s winners.

The club officially opened in 1957, at the Trichardts Park, in Boksburg East, and was known as Oos Rand Jukskei, with Fritz’ father, Willie ‘Oubaas’ Odendaal, serving as the chairman.

Now known as the Boksburg Jukskei Club, it’s still situated at Trichardts Park and competes in the Eastern Gauteng Jukskei League. – @SabeloBoksburg
