Sport Planet – ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 final

Perhaps it’s no surprise that this year’s cricket World Cup will be contested between Tasmanian rivals Australia and New Zealand.

Both came into the tournament as one of the three favourites for final honours alongside South Africa, who were eliminated by the Black Caps.

Both of course are the co-hosts as well.

The Aussies know how to play in the showpiece having won it four times, which is more than any other side. Their pedigree in this tournament will again be called into play as they vie for an unprecedented fifth title.

Brendon McCullum and his troops were easily the most inform team in the tournament and their run pays tribute to that, as they remain the only unbeaten side in the competition.

They’ve already beaten the Aussies in the round-robin stage of course in one of the tournament’s best games but history will count for nothing come Sunday at the monumental MCG.

It’s Australia’s experience and pedigree versus New Zealand’s form and momentum – it’s perfectly poised for a memorable final.

My prediction: Australia’s big match temperament and experience to win it for them.

Logan Green’s prediction: Australia to win. Think they have the experience. Think Warner and Finch are vital to taking out the Kiwi opening bowlers of Boult (Trent) and Southee (Tim) and upsetting McCullum’s fielding plans. Mitchell Starc’s swing to be the decider at the MCG.
