Kickboxers impress at Great North One kickboxing tournament

Several Hans Stolz Kickboxing members impressed judges at the Great North One kickboxing tournament, held recently in Pretoria.

Great North One is one of the standout tournaments in the sport and sees numerous clubs from around the country gather to compete.

It normally takes place four times a year, with the second, third and fourth events scheduled to take place later this year.

Heinrich Bestbier, Brandon Groenewald, Dwayne du Toit, Claudia Haller, Dylan Groenewald and Ashvir Nowbath all picked up medals for the local club.

Bestbier received a bronze for continuous light contact, Brandon received a bronze for semi-contact and du Toit earned silver for full contact kickboxing.

Haller clinched a double scoop, winning bronze for semi-contact and silver for continuous contact.

Nowbath won gold for full contact, but the day went to Groenewald, who won gold for semi and continuous contact.

“The achievement of our members is outstanding considering the number of competitors and thus, the high level of competition,” said sensei Hans Stolz.

“The Great North One is a big tournament and is one of the biggest in the country, so I’m very proud of all of them.”
