Sport Planet – CWC 2015, Soweto Derby and more…

The hard-hitting Proteas meet Pakistan in the day’s early match tomorrow at 3am in the morning.

Waqar Younis’s men sit fourth in their Pool B along second-placed South Africa and are a potential banana skin for the in-form Proteas having dispatched the UAE in their most recent match.

It’s difficult to bet against AB de Villier’s men, however after smashing 800 runs plus in their last two games. SA putt the West Indies to the sword before bludgeoning Ireland and making ODI history in the process.

Football

ABSA Premier League

Saturday, March 7. Kaizer Chiefs v Orlando Pirates, FNB Stadium. Start time: 3.15pm

Tomorrow marks one of the biggest days in the country’s calendar as arch rivals Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates lock horns for the 155th Soweto Derby.

Just like in their first round league clash in December last year, the Amakhosi will be the bookies favourites given their position on the log and devastating form throughout the season which has earned them the ‘Moving Train’ nickname.

Having recently returned from a lengthy league recess, Chiefs have been struggling to regain their form from the first round which saw them complete 2014 without defeat in the league. They earned their first win of 2015 on Wednesday against Ajax Cape Time after suffering a humbling 2-0 defeat to Supersport United.

My prediction: The home side to edge it – Chiefs 2-1 Pirates

Logan Green’s prediction: Chiefs 0-0 Pirates

FA Cup

Monday, March 9. Manchester United v Arsenal, Old Trafford. Start time: 9.45pm.

United have become an enigma in recent times: firing in one game, and totally switching off in the next. You never know what to expect from Louis van Gaal’s men anymore – that’s how we’ve come to know them under their new Dutch mentor. Despite boasting one of the most talented squads in world football, the Red Devils have been punching below their weight, albeit winning most of their matches.

Arsenal is Arsenal, just like in any other season – Arsene Wenger’s men have at times shown title-winning credentials and then sudden dips in form.

Form has hardly ever been a factor when these two English giants meet however, and despite numerous disappointing showings from both teams this season – expect fireworks at the Theatre of Dreams.

My prediction: United 2-1 Arsenal

Logan Green’s prediction: United 1-1 Arsenal – forcing a replay at the Emirates Stadium.

DHL Stormers v Cell C Sharks, DHL Newlands. Start time: 7.10pm.

My prediction: Stormers by five

Logan Green’s prediction: Stormers 25-17 Sharks – @SabeloBoksburg
