Peck proving his power in Super Saloon Inland Championships

Brakpan resident and Boksburg businessman Ismail Peck is leading the Super Saloon Inland Championships, after clinching victory in the second of two races at Midvaal Raceway, on Saturday, February 14.

The former oval track racer (since 1997), returned from a two-year layoff and decided to take on the thrill of long circuit racing in 2014.

In his first race, at Zwartkops, he managed to achieve a fourth overall finish, while qualifying and finishing in second place in the second Zwartkops race, despite suffering engine failure.

With the help of Herman Babs, known as “Mr Rotary” in racing circles, Peck installed a new engine and the results are stating to show.

On Saturday, at Midvaal, Peck qualified in second position in the first race, where he put up the quickest time to ensure pole position for the second race.

“During the first lap of the second race, I was so excited that I forgot my tyres would be cold and I spun off while going into the first corner, with my opponents Fred Kruger and the bunch getting way ahead of me.

“I had to really drive hard but passed Fred by the seventh lap to clinch the victory.

“I am already a contender in long circuit racing – what more can I ask for?” Peck added.
