EFC to kick-off 2015 at Carnival City

Africa’s mixed martial arts giant EFC returns to your TV screens live from Carnival City for the organisation’s first show of 2015 on Saturday, February 21.

Proceedings are scheduled for a 4.15pm start until late.

The 37th edition (EFC 37) will be headlined by Leon “Iron Lion” Mynhardt as he defends his lightweight gold against Don “Magic Man” Madge.

The supporting main event will see ground specialist and welterweight champion Adam “The Prodigy” Speechly put his gong on the line against David Buirski.

Furthermore, history will be made at EFC 37 with MMA aficionados set to be treated to a first ever female bout as South African Danella Eliasov takes on Hungary international Zita Varju in their flyweight clash.

This follows the recent announcement by EFC president Cairo Howarth as he introduced the female flyweight division.

EFC matchmaker Graeme Cartmell believes the division will prove to be an exciting twist for EFC.

“Finally, the women are ready to take centre stage,” he said.

“We have been seeing huge growth in the female division around the world and we can expect the very same, explosive fights within EFC; the February fight card just turned into a whole other animal!” he enthused.

Meanwhile, local MMA star and Xtreme Kickboxing Technologies (XKT) Pro League fighter JP “Tinkerbell” Kruger has pulled out of the event following a career-threatening injury to his vertebrae sustained during training.

Kruger was gearing up to face Darren “Double D” Daniel for the latter’s return match following a two-year hiatus.

Daniel will now instead face Dricus “Stillknocks” du Plessis in their middleweight bout.
