EFC introduces a women’s division

Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC) is renowned for its rapid growth, from expanding globally to the opening of the flyweight division.

The mixed martial arts (MMA) organisation is continuing to grow, with an announcement of the opening of its first women’s division.

Women’s MMA has had a massive surge in global popularity in recent years; with this in mind, EFC president Cairo Howarth has opened EFC to professional female athletes, with the first ever historic bout scheduled for Saturday, February 21, at Carnival City.

MMA aficionados are in for a treat as Hungarian Zita Varju faces-off against South African Danella Eliasov in the flyweight division.

Varju fights out of the Dudas gym, in Budapest, and boasts an extensive kickboxing history.

She’s known for her devastating striking skills.

Her opponent, Eliasov, is one of the more highly experienced female MMA athletes in the country and will be making her professional debut.

She’s a psychiatrist at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, as well as a teacher at Wits University.

She is known for her sharp grappling skills and onlookers can expect fireworks when these two enter the hexagon.

EFC matchmaker Graeme Cartmell believes the female division will prove to be an exciting twist for EFC.

“Finally, the women are ready to take centre stage,” he said.

“We have been seeing huge growth in the female division around the world and we can expect the very same, explosive fights within EFC; the February fight card just turned into a whole other animal!” – @SabeloBoksburg
