Coaching clinics in Ekurhuleni proves successful

While people were caught up in the festive mood, the South African Football Association (SAFA) Ekurhuleni and the Ekurhuleni Development Company (EDC), in partnership with the metro, hosted football coaching clinics for the children of Germiston and surroundings at the Germiston Stadium, recently.

Instead of the Christmas parties the organisations normally host during December, the above-mentioned stakeholders decided on something that will benefit the children in the long run.

“Football development is not an event, but a continuous programme,” said SAFA Ekurhuleni regional executive officer Job Mchunu.

“We decided against hosting Christmas parties and felt that we needed to call all the junior teams that are part of the Germiston Local Football Association to come and enjoy the day with us.

“With the assistance of the aspiring football coaches, who are part of the coaching course conducted at the Germiston Stadium, we, as SAFA Ekurhuleni, are grateful that the coaches felt they needed to put their newly acquired skills into practice through these coaching clinics.”

“We would also like to thank EDC and the municipality for coming on board on this initiative.”

The coaching course is conducted by SAFA Ekurhuleni and has been taking placing at the Germiston Stadium.

They have completed the first phase of the course and will resume with phase two, this year.

The aspiring coaches will be taken through an intense training programme by the newly appointed regional technical director, Innocent Mayoyo.

“The decision to embark on this programme is informed by our core business, which is to provide accommodation for people,” explained property manager at EDC Richard Tsoka.

“Within the communities for whom we provide accommodation, there are children who live in those places and they need to be provided with recreational facilities, hence we discussed the project with SAFA.”

“It is also exciting to see the parents coming to support their children.”

Mchunu encourages teams to join local football structures, in order to benefit from such programmes and appeals to teams to refrain from playing gambling games.
