Boksburg end year on a 9-wicket high

Boksburg Cricket Club opening batsmen propelled the PG Park outfit to a thumping nine-wicket home victory against United in their Crossover League encounter on Sunday, December 7.

Having watched the visitors race to 151 all-out after 31 overs, Boksburg wasted little time in attending to the 152-run mission that laid ahead as the trio of Michael Holtzhausen, John Haywood and JP van Staden combined, to give the home side a solid start before securing the victory.

Haywood’s 55 was carried by Van Staden’s unbeaten 26 and Holtzhausen’s impressive innings of 62 not-out as the triumvirate combined for 152/ 1 in 19.5 overs to secure a convincing win.

United’s Dean Crause scored 35 runs for his side’s highest score and took Boksburg’s sole wicket in the form of Haywood.

Herman Meyer Junior and Herman Meyer Senior carried on with their impressive bowling performances as they both took 3/13 in 10 overs and 2/19 in four respectively.

The weekend also saw the first round of Eastern Cricket fixtures come to an end. Action will resume on Sunday, January 11. – @SabeloBoksburg
