Hotspurs Soccer Academy: A club with a positive vision
Vision Hotspurs Soccer Academy is a club which lives by its name.
Situated in Vosloorus, the club’s vision is to see its players one day plying their trade in Europe for trials and perhaps, earn life-changing contracts.
Furthermore, the club aims to take its u-15 side to take part in the Gothic Cup in Sweden in 2018.
However, money remains that notorious hindrance impeding the players from realising their dreams.
The players attend Erasmus Monoreng High, a school near the Academy.
The team was established in 2010 and its main aim is to see its players realise their dreams as football players. The club consists of boys from disadvantaged backgrounds who, at times, fail to make ends meet.
The club is divided into two teams: an u-15 junior side and a senior team. The junior side consists of a total of 18 players, with the seniors having 21 players.
The question you’re probably asking yourself is how the big-dreaming Academy will convert its dreams into a reality.
The club is in search of a sponsor who could donate a minibus; the bus will in turn transport the players and be used as a source of income.
The drive to find such a sponsor is endorsed by the Advertiser.
The plan
The bus would work as transport in a business environment during weekdays, and transport the team to games during weekends.
The income made from the bus would then be used to accommodate the players’ needs, including financing the players’ trips to Europe and other basic expenses.
With a large number of the Academy’s players failing to afford to fund for their tertiary studies due to financial constraints at home, the income made from the vehicle could be used to close this gap.
“When the boys reach the age of 21 without seeing meaningful progress in their lives, they normally resort to making wrong decisions in their lives like resorting to drugs and alcohol,” said club chairman and coach Mzwakhe Ngwenya.
“As a team, we want to ensure our players do not end up doing such things by doing all we can to support their developmental needs.”
“I want the team to be unique in that we give players something out of football. I don’t want to be just a coach, I want to give the boys something out of football, like education,” says Ngwenya.
The Academy currently relies on donations from the willing, and on the the parents of the boys, who sometimes cannot afford.
