Coulentianos shines for CBC in Old Boys clash

CBC’s premier XI side romped to a six-wicket bonus point home win against Springs to emphatically clinch the battle of the Old Boys on Sunday, November 2.

The away side, who opted to bat first following skipper Warren Wooley’s toss win, posted 219 in 47.4 overs before being bowled all-out.

CBC, led by a star performance by in-form opening batsman Wesley Coulentianos, overhauled the 220-run target in less than 40 overs (34.3), earning them the additional bonus point.

Wooley and his men were condemned to a slow start by the hosts, with the skipper being bowled out for a duck and opening partner Tyron Victor receiving his marching orders after just six runs.

Fellow top-order batsman Wickus Germishuizen re-steadied the Springs ship however, with his impressive innings of 108.

The away side seemingly struggled to build on Wickus’ innings, with Ernest Germishuizen (21) and Cameron Birnie (18) being the other notable contributors for the visitors.

CBC bowler Vincent Moore proved to be a thorn to the Springs order, claiming 4/33 in 8.4 overs, with captain Willie Bernhardt, Jean Rossouw and George Viviers all taking two wickets apiece.

The tight bowling from the home side left the match perfectly poised for Coulentianos, who duly obliged by smashing a resounding 127 to put the home side in the driving seat.

It was his third century in four outings.

Johan Du Preez (29) and Akshay Maharas (14) added the extras for CBC before Nicholas Lockyer’s unbeaten 31 and Dylan’s Bennie’s two not-out ensured that the home side remain unbeaten. – @SabeloBoksburg
