SA golf trio headline in Mauritius

Reigning South African Amateur Stroke Play champion Jason Smith from Gauteng North, fifth ranked NJ Arnoldi from Ekurhuleni and rising Limpopo star Hennie du Plessis, will debut in the second MCB Indian Ocean Amateur Golf Open in Mauritius this week.

The South African trio will line up at the exquisite Tamarina Golf Club against local Mauritian representation, led by last year’s runner-up, Ludociv Bax, as well as Arjun Sharma and Simarjeet Singh from India and competitors from nearby Reunion Island and Madagascar.

The field of 60 top amateurs also includes 15 ladies, led by local favourite, Ginger Delacretaz.

The prestigious 54-hole amateur championship is a World Amateur Golf ranking event and the format for both the mens and ladies divisions in Stroke Play.

“We are delighted to welcome the participation this year of top-ranked players from South Africa and India,” said Christophe Cure, president of the Mauritius Golf Federation.

“This is only our second edition and already the tournament has grown in stature. It is our goal to develop the MCB Indian Ocean Amateur Golf Open as one of the major amateur golf tournaments in the region.” – @SabeloBoksburg
