The Ryu Champs, which saw more than 500 entries from around the country, yielded success for the local karate club, which achieved a 42 medal sweep between its child competitors (five to 13 years old) and elite competitors (14 years old and above).

The club’s elite athletes competed in the Elite Section where the top two medallists in their respective categories, were selected for the Goju Ryu South African Team that will compete in New Zealand next year at the Goju Ryu Style World Championships.

The club’s elite competitors won 16 medals in the Elite Section, with seven finishing in the exclusive top two positions.

Junior athletes added 26 to the medals tally to complete a successful Ryu SA Champs meet for the local club.

Top two finishers in their respective categories: Marius Madgwick, Noel Nicholas, Adrian Nicholas, Gareth Hird, Tyra-Lee Brett-Poole, Steve Letsoala and Angela Smargiasso – @SabeloBoksburg
