Drivers mimic real life in 4×4 control car tournament

Pretoria-based radio control racer Wayne Botha, was crowned champion at a 4x4 radio control car competition held recently in Freeway Park.

Botha walked away with a trailer, trophy, stickers and a R200 gift voucher for his exploits.

Daniel Diedericks and Steven Smit completed the top three.

The event saw cars with 1/10 scale bodies battle it out for supremacy.

Asked about the purpose of the sport, local racer Jens Voigt said: “Not a lot of people know about the sport; it’s a relatively new sport in the country, but the whole purpose really is to mimic real life driving. Boys will always be boys,” he chuckled.

“We’re also trying to get US manufacturer and seller of radio-controlled model parts, vehicles and equipment, RC4WD, and Axial, whose chassis we were using, to sponsor future events.”
