Cricket gets underway this weekend

Easterns Cricket’s elite league takes stage this weekend which will see every team in action bar Springs Old Boys.

Local premier side CBC Old Boys gets its campaign underway with a tough home encounter against last season’s runner-up, Benoni Northerns, while champion Kempton Park begins its crown defense against United.

KT Windies, formerly known as Kwa-Thema, will be hoping their new name brings new fortunes as they host Tembisa in what should be an exciting encounter.

The last fixture sees Duduza travel to Benoni where Actonville Spurs will be waiting.

With the league, a team lighter, following Boksburg Cricket Club’s drop to the Promotion League, a ‘bye’ system has been introduced to the elite division which will see teams enjoy off weeks, with Springs Old Boys being the first beneficiaries of the ‘bye’.

The Third League will also feature on opening week, albeit with one fixture, with Benoni welcoming Sunward Park. The match is set to get underway at 1.15pm.

All Premier League fixtures get underway at 9.30am.

All matches will be played on Sunday, October 5. – @SabeloBoksburg
