Joubert, who was a clear crowd favourite, began to dictate proceedings in the latter stages of the bout, landing damaging jabs, but Ontombio refused to back down.
Powerful shots from Ontombio left “The Warrior” battered and bruised, but it wasn’t enough to stop Joubert from clinching the win in their junior welterweight showdown.
On the same fight card, Frans “Fighting Time” Ramabola took the wind out of Stone van Aswegen’s sail with a TKO win, after 2.24 minutes in the third round of their junior middleweight fight.
The lanky Free State fighter went on an onslaught in the third, pinning van Aswegen in a corner before dropping him to his knee. Van Aswegen then failed to respond to the referee’s count, gifting Ramabola the win.
The bout started in fierce fashion, with both boxers trading blows at will in a closely contested opening round.
The second saw a more defensive approach from the boxers, as they attempted to keep damage as minimal as possible.
Size came into the fore in the third round, with van Aswegen battling to stay in the fight.
With momentum and stamina on his side, Ramabola fired away before knocking his opponent down for the win.
In another fight, which included a Boksburg boxer, DJ Kriel showcased his superior ring savvy to outlast Clever Muding in a bout which saw more dancing than punching.
Kriel, who’s Stone’s stablemate at The Natural Team Gym, looked to be the favourite to secure the win in the junior flyweight clash, with his timely shots and movements doing more damage as the two favoured a defensive approach.
With the fighters allowing the fight to peter out, it was left to the officials, who scored it 37-39, 36-40, 37-39 in favour of Kriel.
