LK Stars deny CBC with 1-0 win

LK Stars claimed three points at the CBC grounds to complete the double over the homeside with a 1-0 win in their Easterns Senior League match on Saturday, August 16.

The Daveyton outfit won the reverse fixture 2-0 at the same venue.

The decisive goal came from a neat build-up from the away side, which culminated with a cross into the danger zone that beat the CBC goalkeeper, leaving Sibusiso Ngwenya with a simple tap-in in the first-half.

The second-half provided a few scoring opportunities with both sides, cancelling each other out in what was at times, an intense midfield battle.

Attacking in search of the leveller, Glen Brierley’s men shifted more players forward and it almost paid-off when a loose ball was shot straight into the Stars’ keeper’s hands.

Benefiting from a swift counter-attacking move, LK Stars number seven had a chance to double his side’s lead from a one-on-one with the homeside’s ‘keeper’, but the latter foiled the danger with a game-saving save.

Both teams huffed and puffed in an action-filled second stanza but neither net was invaded with Stars holding on to their one goal advantage.

“We had a good game,” said CBC skipper Evan Partridge in a post-match pitch-side interview.

“This was one of our better games of the season, but our finishing lacked a bit. The creativity was there but we just couldn’t finish.”
