Cardinals secure major win against Red Sox

Efficient pitching and batting proved vital as the Boksburg Cardinals secured a comfortable 18-8 mercy rule victory over Kempton Park’s Red Sox at the Boksburg Stadium on Sunday, August 3.

The early stages of the game promised a tightly fought battle with the Red Sox enjoying a strong start in the first frame.

The away side registered a run and nearly made it two before a vital catch by Cardinals’ Michael Vorster.

Vorster continued to make his presence felt behind the bat in the second frame to put the home side in the lead for the first time, prompting a momentum swing.

Wesley Botha and Brandon Edmonds helped stretch Cardinals’ lead to 4-1 while Ryan van Rensburg’s tight pitching kept the Red Sox at bay.

At 8-1 down, the away side’s Richard Greenslade led a comeback rally for the Red Sox but the Cardinals proved too strong with Jeremiah Venter, Travis Hammond and Matthew Saverton making the additions to steer them to a commanding 18-8 win.

After seven games played, Cardinals is placed in third spot on the league with five wins. -@SabeloBoksburg
