Wild Flames gymnasts to compete in France

Five talented gymnasts from the Wild Flames Tumbling and Acrobatics Club, in Boksburg, have been selected to represent the country at the eighth FIG World Age Group Acrobatics Championships in Levallois, France, in July.

The competition, which is hosted by Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique, takes place every two years and is expected to attract more than 300 gymnasts from around the world.

The five gymnasts are Kiara Swart, Nikita Viljoen, Bianca Engelbrecht, Keenan Peterson and Hennie Willemsen. They will be travelling with their coach Chris Botha.

This competition represents the first international competition for four of the five gymnasts, who all have been training tirelessly for the last three years in preparation for the event.

With the costs of the trip requiring funding from the participants’ parents, the journey to the French nation is proving too costly and the club would do with much-needed financial assistance to fund it.

An estimated R192 000 in total is required to cover all the costs, which include entry fee to the tournament, accommodation, flight tickets and three meals a day.

Anyone wishing to contribute to the success of the trip can contact Zelda or Chris Botha on 083 599 6114 or 083 984 2983.
