Shianne named Sportswoman of the Year

Barefoot water-skier, Shianne Addinall, was named Ekurhuleni’s Junior Sportswoman of the Year, at a splendour sports awards ceremony at Birchwood Hotel on Friday evening, March 14.

Shianne edged out u-17 South African Team ringball players Alison Allan and Verochka Els for the award.

This follows her election as the European and African 2013 Female Skier of the Year.

She is ranked as the second best junior and fifth best skier overall in the world.

Furthermore, the former Woodlands Primary School pupil was selected for the South African Junior and Open Team that participated in the European and African Federation Championships in October 2013 in Kimberly.

She took first position in tricks and second in slalom, whilst the team finished first overall in the team competition.

“It was really exciting,” she said at the time, referring to her achievement.

“I’ve been working hard to become world champion, and now I’m halfway there by becoming the European champion.”

Shianne could not be reached for comment amid her Junior Sportswoman of the Year crowning, as she was at the world championships in Australia early this month.

Boksburg’s wrestling mentor Nico Coetzee picked-up the Coach of the Year Award, having represented the country as head coach of the South African team which participated at the African Junior Wrestling Championships, in Liberia last year.

He was also the head coach of the South African team that attended the World Wrestling Championships in Hungary in May, 2013, as well as the Commonwealth Wrestling Championships, which were held in the country last December.

Coetzee is also a member of the Long Term Development Plan and Coaches Framework for wrestling in South Africa.

* Sportsfan of the Year: Maatshangwane Lordwick Motshana (Tembisa) – soccer

* Coach of the Year: Nico Coetzee (Boksburg) – wrestling

* Junior Sportsman of the Year: Kyle James McClatchie (Kempton Park) – golf

* Junior Sportswoman of the Year: Shianne Addinall (Boksburg) – barefoot water-ski

* Sportsman of the Year (Sportsmen with disability): Bongani Eric Dlamini (Tembisa) – wheelchair tennis

* Sportsman of the Year: Ryan Donovan Phillips (Brakpan) – kickboxing

* Sportswoman of the Year: Bernadette Coston (Alberton) – hockey
