Tour de France champion visits Jaguar East Rand

The cycling fraternity and residents were given a rare opportunity to meet 2013 Tour de France champion and Team Sky cyclist Chris Froome, on Saturday, February 8.

This meet-and-greet was organised by Jaguar East Rand as part of its Ride and Drive Jaguar Initiative.

Jaguar also gave those who were in attendance a chance to drive one of their cars through a lucky draw for the Jaguar Experience competition worth R10 000.

Fans got a chance to meet their hero through a question and answers session, while they could obtain his autograph.

“The initiative was to give the residents of Boksburg and the East Rand at large the opportunity to meet Chris,” said Jaguar’s Mike Labuschagne.

“It was also to give people who have never gotten a chance to drive a ‘Jag’ an opportunity to do so.”

Froome’s 2013 win came in the Tour’s 100th edition where he was followed by Nairo Quintana of Colombia and Spain international, Joaquim Rodriguez.

When asked to describe the emotions from his Tour win, Froome replied: “This (the Tour win) has been something I’ve been chasing for so long.

“As a teenager, I would watch the Tour and think just being there would be great, but winning it was just amazing.”
