Greyvensteyn fourth in Formula 2 Midgets

The Rock Raceway in Brakpan was a hive of activity when the World of Motorsport ZA (Womza) hosted their annual national championships in various disciplines on Saturday, October 12, 2013.

One particular discipline that would have been of great interest to Boksburg residents was that of Formula 2 Midgets, that saw Boksburg’s 14-year-old Tiaan Greyvensteyn take the circuit for his very first national event.

He finished fourth.

Driving the open-wheeler, four-cylinder Ford Pinto motor, the young Greyvensteyn held his own in the 15-lap race, with only three drivers, including current South African champion Richard Ackerman, finishing ahead of him.

Tiaan is a third generation driver of the Greyvensteyn family to race in the Midget Class.

His grandfather, Willie, was a well-known Midget driver at the old Dunswart Stadium, and his father, Bill, also races in the Midget Class.

Tiaan is one of a handful of Boksburg drivers who will be racing at the next event, on Saturday, October 26, at the Rock Raceway.
