Netballers battle in Brakpan
Charl Baard Stadium was a hive of netball action on Saturday, October 12, when the Ekurhuleni Netball Festival was held in Brakpan.
The event consisted of two divisions, the u-19 division and the senior open division, and drew 15 teams from the three Ekurhuleni netball sub-regions that are affiliated to the Ekurhuleni Netball Association.
The sub-regions are Kathorus Netball League (southern region), Kwatsaduza Netball League (eastern region) and Greater Benoni.
There were also squads from the Ekurhuleni Netball Association who are now part of the already selected champion squads (development teams for Ekurhuleni in netball).
The results in the u-19 divisions were: 1 Ekurhuleni Netball Association, 2 Kwatsaduza Netball League, 3 Kathorus Netball League, 4 Greater Benoni League, 5 Hub squad (combination team from various areas).
The results in the open divisions were: 1 Ekurhuleni Netball Association, 2 Kwatsaduza Netball League, 3 Greater Benoni, 4 Kathorus Netball League.
Only the first and second placed teams were awarded a trophy and medals.
The outstanding individual players were rewarded with small trophies, while some players were given playing shoes, as they were seen wearing improper shoes for netball.
