Goju Karate Academy students make SA proud

Three Goju Karate Academy students in Sunward Park, flew the country's flag high when they were selected to represent South Africa at the African Championships in Tunisia recently.

Werner van den Berg, Ryan Sheppard and Gareth Hird who are all black belts, took part in the Team Karate event and were awarded their national colours upon their selection.

There will be no respite for the three heroes, however, as they will soon be starting preparations for the World Karate Federation Junior and Cadets World Championships which will take place in Spain in November.

Representing the country in these two prestigious events is a great feat considering that they only take the number one athlete or team for each division to represent South Africa.

Van den Berg, Sheppard and Hird have been training with the academy for more than five years now.
