Basketball action to get underway

Ekurhuleni to promote women's basketball.

Basketball teams are hard at work preparing for the Ekurhuleni Women’s Basketball Tournament.

The tournament is organised by Ekurhuleni Basketball Association (EBA) and will be held at the Brakpan Indoor Centre, from August 9 to 11.

Players will show their skills from 8am to 8pm.

According to the association, the tournament has been organised to promote and showcase the role as well as the athletic abilities that women possess in the sport of basketball, on both junior and senior level, in and around Gauteng.

Eight senior teams will take part in the tournament.

They are Ekurhuleni Knights, Vaal University of Technology, University of Johannesburg, Jozi Nuggets, Soweto Raptors, Maxaquene (from Mozambique), Lakers Zimbabwe and Chosen Few Ladies (from Mpumalanga).

The junior teams are Ekurhuleni Rubies, Ekurhuleni Emeralds, City of Joburg, Tshwane, Sedibeng and West Rand.

“This event will feature the best of women’s basketball available in the country and in Africa,” says EBA chairman Nhlanhla Zikalala.

The tournament will be supported by Afrisun and the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality.
