Last minute drop goal earns victory

Boksburg Rugby Club kicked off their Predator League campaign with the closest of wins.

A drop goal in the dying minutes of the match, by Ashley Buchler, gave The Owls a 29-26 victory over Centurion, at Prince George Park, on Saturday, July 20.

This was a tough match and Boksburg were given a rude awakening early on, when they found themselves behind in the match.

The local side trailed 19-12 at halftime.

This Boksburg side, however, showed character as they fought back impressively.

Buchler, who was the Man of the Match, also kicked over seven penalties for Boksburg.

Cliffie Viljoen scored Boksburg’s only try.

The home side did not make it easier for themselves as they missed a number of tackles early on in the match.

“It is something we need to look at as we can’t always be chasing the match,” says Scheepers.

The chairman had words of praise for his fly half, saying he has been one of Boksburg’s best player this season.

This is a big win for Boksburg as Centurion represented the Blue Bull union at the Community Club Championships.

The second team also clawed their way back into their match, drawing 19-19.

At halftime they trailed 19-7.

The u-21 side lost 24-7.
