Grobler raring to go

Supersport United striker, Bradley Grobler (25), is ready for the challenge of the new Premier Soccer League (PSL) season.

The league kicks off in August with Supersport United, who recently unveiled Cavin Johnson as their new coach, squaring up against Free State Stars in their opening fixture.

Grobler, a former Boksburg resident and Boksburg Football Club player, is anticipating a fruitful season for his club and is looking forward to playing under Johnson.

“He is an excellent coach who I have worked with before during my time with Platinum Stars,” says the striker.

“He enjoys to play good football and will definitely bring a great style of play to the team.

“There is no reason why we cannot compete for the league title this season, because we have got a really good squad. I think we will surprise a lot of people this season,” he adds.

The former Freeway Park Primary School pupil also has some personal goals in mind, and is aiming to end the season as the league’s top scorer.

He also aims to stay injury free and achieve selection for the Bafana Bafana team again after making his debut for the national team against Zimbabwe in 2011.

Grobler also scored his first goal for his country in that game.

The “Matsatsantsa” star says that the PSL fixtures that he is looking forward to the most, is playing against his former clubs (Platinum Stars and Ajax Cape Town) as well as the games against Soweto giants, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.

Grobler is also excited to play against Manchester City at Loftus Versfeld on Sunday, July 14.

“It will be nice to play against players that we see on TV all the time,” he adds.

He says that the fondest memory he has of playing for Boksburg FC was being coached by his father, Les, who played professionally for Moroka Swallows.

“I made some really good friends at the club, some of which I still have today.”
