Tow truck drivers also need to tow the line

“Not a Speed Freak”, Atlasville, writes:

I’ve recently noticed several instances of tow truck drivers showing no regard for traffic rules or other motorists.

The speed at which they drive – chasing who knows what – is reckless and dangerous to other road users.

On Rondebult Road one afternoon I saw a tow truck driver barrel straight through a red traffic light, at the intersection of Bentel Avenue. It was peak-hour traffic and it’s a big intersection.

I’ve also seen one speed down the middle island in Rondebult Road to get past the traffic.

They are not above the law and we should all be reporting them for this recklessness!

How ironically sad is it that these tow truck drivers could cause a serious accident in the process of trying to get to an accident scene?

Editor’s comment: Spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department chief superintendent Wilfred Kgasago said: “Tow truck drivers, like any other motorists, have to abide by the rules of the road. Motorists are encouraged to assist law enforcers by reporting such reckless behaviour on our roads, via our Call Centre on 011 458 0911, to enable us to take the appropriate action.”
