Volume of police, vehicle recovery cases is staggering

André Nel of Anderbolt writes:

One day, one month ago, on November 4, 2016 at 5am, I was hijacked at gunpoint outside my business in Anderbolt by two men.

The robbers fled with my car and some of my personal belongings without harming me; and I was fortunate enough later to get my car back.

I would like to thank SW Security and Boksburg North police for their rapid response, as well as their professionalism in attending to the incident.

SW security was here within minutes of raising the alarm. They notified the police, who in turn arrived, also within minutes.

The officers attending to me were concerned about how I was feeling, before taking a statement.

I was notified within an hour via SMS as to my case number; and the commanding officer of the Boksburg North police station came to work, to see me and offer further assistance with the case.

There is more often than not criticism leveled at the police about lack of response, etc.

What opened my eyes is the fact that, at 5am on the 4th of the month, I was case number 77 at Boksburg North Police station – and case number 4399 for the year, at Van Rhyn Deep vehicle recovery unit.

Those are scary numbers.

Its no wonder that the police can’t get to all the cases, and/or attend to them as efficiently as we would like.

Crime is rampant, with not enough hands and hours to fully attend to each case.

Unemployment is also high. It’s no wonder that people turn to crime in order to survive.

Again, thanks for the prompt professional service shown by all who attended to my incident.
