Freedom Day: Tell us what’s on your mind

Freedom Day is the commemoration of the first democratic elections held in South Africa on April 27, 1994.

The Advertiser asked a few locals what it means to them.

Pinky Buda
Freedom Day means nothing to me. South Africans are still suffering as the unemployment rate is high and people are hungry.

Ruben Rabie
Freedom Day is about commemorating democracy and reminding us that it’s an important day that everyone should celebrate.

Peggy Komana
Freedom Day means a lot to me because it reminds me I’m a free person now. I’m definitely commemorating this day.

Derusha Rabela
I believe Freedom Day is important because it’s about celebrating people’s rights. Now everybody is equal.

Busisiwe Buthelezi
It reminds us that we live in a free country. This Freedom Day, I’m going to celebrate everybody who fought for my freedom.
