The Department of Health recently announced that stricter anti-tobacco laws are close to being approved and implemented. The Advertiser asked a few locals how they feel about this.
Martie Pretorius: “I don’t smoke and believe we need stricter smoking laws. I see many people smoking in cars with children in. If you want to smoke, you need to respect others.”
Chene Smit: “I’m for a stricter anti-tobacco law as I’m a non-smoker. Why should people’s health suffer because of other’s bad choices?”
Leonie Botes: “I’m a smoker; however, I understand they don’t want people to smoke around children. Government must just be aware that a stricter law will result in people supporting the black market.”
Clayton Bizabani: “I’m not a smoker; however, I have empathy with smokers. I think the anti-tobacco law is perfect as it is and doesn’t need to be strengthened.”
Ethan Blignaut: “As an old smoker, I believe they should just leave the law as is. Every person should have the right to decide if he/she wants to smoke.”
