NPO celebrates 25 years of democracy by empowering women

Women were encouraged to take part in the #WhatWomenWant campaign on social media. The campaign is aimed at getting women to talk about the issues they face.

Basadi ba Kopane, in conjunction with Gauteng Legislature, recently celebrated 25 years of democracy as part of the Women’s Month celebration at the Boksburg Civic Hall on August 15.

Informative presentations were made by Government Communications Information System, Gauteng Provincial Legislature, Gauteng Provincial Government, Department of Economic Development, Gauteng Liquor Board and the EMPD, Gauteng Provincial Government Department of Cooperatives Governance and Traditional Affairs.

The presentations were about women empowerment, information sharing and networking.

The women also had a chance to sell their products at the venue.

Lebai Sethoko, the founder of Basadi ba Kopane, said: “Our organisation focuses on empowering women and children who are less fortunate.”

The NPO was established in February this year by a group of women who are very passionate about community development. They have been donating school uniforms and food to disadvantaged women and children in Boksburg.

Ward 32 Clr Marius de Vos said that he fully supports Basadi ba Kopane.

“It’s wonderful to see that young women are so passionate about making a difference in the community. Programmes like this are important as many South Africans are experiencing difficult times these days,” said Marius.
