St Dom’s comes out tops in short course

The school congratulates the learners on their achievements.

St Dominic’s took first place in the Wits Integrated Experience (WIE) Short Course 2024, beating 40 top schools in the country.

The WIE short course is a problem-solving exercise that requires learners to use 21st-century skills to develop an informed solution to real-world problems.

A team of Grade 11 learners from St Dominic’s partnered with Wits academics in processing data collected and in proposing how to deal with a specific crisis from a scientific, engineering, humanitarian, legal, health and economic perspective.

The first part of this exercise took place on June 7, and this project work led to a report-back presentation at Wits by each school’s Grade 11 group in front of a panel of experts on July 19.

It was at the prizegiving following the presentation that the St Dominic’s team was awarded first place.

The school congratulates educator Joseph Sowa and the school’s Grade 11 team (Alyssa Joao, Emma Rose, Nehal Thomas, Ntando Mabunda and Peyton Thomas) for showcasing their critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
