Bus transporting learners collides with truck

This accident comes a few days after four school children lost their lives and four others were seriously injured after their scholar transport collided with a bakkie on the N12 near the Putfontein Road off-ramp.

A bus transporting learners from Ramaphosa informal settlement in Boksburg to Sekgotlong Primary School in Katlehong collided with a truck on Black Reef and Dekema roads in Wadeville, Germiston, this morning (March 12).

It’s alleged the 65-seater bus, owned by Nehemiah bus company from Mapleton, crashed into the back of a heavy-duty truck.
According to EMPD spokesperson Thabiso Makgato, 19 learners suffered minor injuries and were given medical attention by paramedics on scene before they were transported to local medical facilities.

Drivers of both vehicles escaped with no injuries, and no fatalities have been reported.
Another bus from the company arrived to transport the learners who escaped unhurt to school.
“It is alleged the truck suddenly stopped in the middle of the road, and unfortunately, the bus couldn’t stop, subsequently crashing into the back of the trailer,” said DEMS spokesperson William Ntladi.

The crash came a day after 16 people lost their lives, and dozens were injured in a municipal bus crash on the R21 freeway in Kempton Park.
Before that, four school children lost their lives and four others were seriously injured and admitted to hospital following a crash on the N12 westbound before the Putfontein Road off-ramp on March 10.
The learners, who attended Tom Newby Primary School, Rynfield Primary School and Griffcats Tutor Centre, were reportedly being transported to their schools in Benoni by a woman in a Toyota Verso.
