Some areas may have power by 18:00 today – metro

Some areas will need to wait longer for electricity as faulty cables and other equipment failure slow power restoration.

According to City of Ekurhuleni spokesperson Zweli Dlamini, energy crews are still working to restore power to areas of Boksburg affected by the Anderbolt substation fire, but the estimated restoration time for certain suburbs is 18:00 today (October 17).

A full assessment and some repairs to restore power were done at the substation, but it was then found that there were faulty cables that needed to be repaired.
Affected areas that could have power by 18:00 include Beyers Park, Boksburg North, Ravenswood and Eveleigh.
However, industrial areas that receive power from the substation will only have power restored at around 12:00 tomorrow as workers still need to replace three 11KV panels that burned out and other panels and busbars still need to be cleaned as well as cables replaced.

Residents of the affected areas woke up yesterday to no power following a fire that broke out at the substation in the early hours of October 16.
