Work ongoing to restore power to suburbs affected by substation fire

Treat all electrical networks as live while work continues to restore electricity.

There is no estimated restoration time yet for the power outage caused by a fire at the Anderbolt substation in the early hours of this morning (October 16), said City of Ekurhuleni spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.

Affected areas include Ravenswood, Westwood, Eveleigh, Boksburg North, Jansen Park, Anderbolt, Cason and parts of Beyers Park.

“The City’s emergency services responded swiftly after the transformer at the Anderbolt substation tripped and caught fire,” Dlamini said.

“The extent of the damage is still being assessed. Teams are hard at work to ensure power is restored as soon as possible while ascertaining the cause of the problem.”

“Customers are urged to treat electrical networks as live while work is ongoing, and regular updates will be provided through the city’s social media platforms and SMS service.”
