Woman recycles dog food bags in aid of the Boksburg SPCA

The recycled dog food bags are sold at the Boksburg SPCA.

Maureen Coetzee from Primrose has found a unique way to support the furry friends at the Boksburg SPCA while promoting environmental sustainability.

The 50-year-old turns used dog food bags into carry bags, which she gives back to the society to sell.

She got the idea to recycle dog food bags while feeding her dogs one day.

Coetzee said the entire process takes her about eight minutes.

She hand-washes the bags to ensure they are clean and ready for transformation. Once cleaned, the bags are machine-stitched into durable, stylish carry bags.

“You can as a shopping or beach bag,” Coetzee explained.

The bags are then donated to the SPCA, where they are sold to support the organisation.

Coetzee said she is doing the initiative because she is an animal lover who wants to assist the society where possible.

She encouraged individuals to drop off used dog food bags at the SPCA so that she can make more for the society.

Vicky Finnemore, manager of the Boksburg SPCA thanked Coetzee for her efforts.

“It’s a wonderful initiative, and every penny makes a difference.”
