Nadia nails the competition

Van Staden won R1 500 worth of nail products and a R1 500 for the society.

Nadia van Staden (30), a nail artist from Ravenswood, proved that donations can come from usual places.

The 30-year-old recently won the Tickled Pinque South Africa’s Paws of Hope nail art competition, which saw the Boksburg SPCA blessed with R1 500.

Van Staden won R1 500 worth of nail products and a R1 500 cash prize to donate to an animal charity of her choice.

The competition, which drew over 100 entries, aimed to raise awareness for animals through the nail industry by doing animal art on nails.

Van Staden entered a stunning set of nails with art, such as a dog house and doggy bed with a blanket, which she moulded herself.

She explained that the nail art she entered represents how dogs are supposed to be treated.

The set of nails Nadia van Staden used to enter the competition.

“That is why I added items such as a dog house and food to my nail art. I’m an animal lover and mom to a rescued Yorkshire terrier, Snowy. She is the light of our lives,” said Van Staden, who has been in the nail industry for nine years.

Van Staden and Tickled Pinque representatives recently visited the Boksburg SPCA to hand over the donation.

“We were met by friendly staff, and to say there were happy faces all around is an understatement. They do amazing work and need all the help they can get.

“We were allowed to meet all the animals up for adoption. It was heartbreaking seeing how many animals need a loving and safe home. I am so grateful to Tickled Pinque South Africa for donating and am honoured and proud to have had a part in this.

Inspector Ralph Chivaviro from the Boksburg SPCA and Nadia van Staden.

“Who knew something as simple as nail art could help make a small change by raising awareness of animals in need and help the SPCA continue the great work they do?”

Avane Crous, the Tickled Pinque owner, said: “We love hosting these nail art competitions because they help upcoming and professional nail technicians to push themselves to get creative.

“We empower women to reach their goals and will let them stand on our shoulders to get there. It was a huge privilege for us to donate the funds to help the SPCA at Boksburg to look after our less fortunate fur babies.”

Vicky Finnemore, the manager of the Boksburg SPCA, said they were stunned by the nail art.

“It’s so impressive, and we are so thankful for the donation.”
