Seniors enjoy spending time with dogs at meeting

During the event, the senior citizens enjoyed seeing the friendly English sheepdogs do cute tricks.

The East Rand Seniors’ Club held a fun-filled event at the Boksburg Central Methodist Church recently, where furry friends brought joy to the senior citizens.

The JOY Dogs, Orion, Jade and Yola, are primarily therapy dogs who spread joy wherever they go.

During the event, the senior citizens enjoyed seeing the friendly English Sheepdogs do cute tricks.

To make the visit even more interesting, their owner, Sue Green, demonstrated how she makes wool from her pooches’ fur.

Green showed the attendees items such as beanies that were made from the dog hair.

Club secretary Barbara Morrison described the event as a success.

“Everyone enjoyed it. The dogs were roaming around and were friendly to the attendees,” said Morrison.

Green said they had a blast at the event.

“It’s really nice to do these type of events where the dogs can spread happiness,” said Green.

One of the members who attended the event, Ellen Young, said she had a wonderful time.

“The highlight of the event was to see the dogs roaming around,” said Young.

East Rand Seniors’ Club is still going strong, providing senior citizens the opportunity to socialise.

The club was established over a decade ago.

They have 60 members who get together at the church, at 10:00, every third Thursday of the month.
During these meetings, attendees enjoy tea and entertainment.
