Club crowns SA’s top cat in Northmead

The felines flaunted during the final show of the season.

After five months of tough competition, the Cat Fanciers’ Club of South Africa (Cfcsa) Championship Cat Show winner was named.

Engrossed in primping their furry feline companions, owners of the 93 contestants patiently waited to present their kitties at the judges’ table at the Benoni Christian School in Northmead on August 17.

Awesome Bengals Alula Labe, a brown spotted tabby Bengal owned and bred by Pretoria’s Lorraine Kennard, was named cat of the day and the overall winner of the 2024 Gauteng Top Cat competition.

According to judge Jane Goble, the season and the final show saw various cat breeds showcased.

“The animals are all in magnificent condition, showed good temperament and were handled well by their owners,” she said.

Marmite, a rescued neutered pet, with owners Gideon and Lynette van Aarde.

“We also saw a slight increase in owners showing their pet cats. We’d like to see this category grow in the future.”

One pampered pet featured was Gideon van Aarde’s Marmite, a neutered rescue.

“He is a beloved pet and has proved to be a show cat in his own right,” said Van Aarde.

With the show season now over, the fluffy constants will spend their time lazing in the sun, basking in some well-deserved rest.
