Zorbas Taverna hosted a vibrant quiz night on Mandela Day in honour of the late president, drawing in a lively crowd that helped to raise over R10 000 for the Boksburg SPCA.

The event aimed to raise funds for the Boksburg SPCA, channelling the spirit of Mandela Day into a night of fun, food, and philanthropy.

Event organiser Kerry Foley said the evening was a resounding success, with the community coming together in full force.

“The atmosphere was festive, filled with laughter and camaraderie as teams competed in the quiz, showcasing their knowledge about animals. It was a delight to see so many people engaged and having a great time whilst enjoying the atmosphere of Zorbas and their authentic Greek cuisine,” she said.

In addition to the quiz, Zorbas held an auction featuring generously donated hampers.

“The auction was a highlight of the night, sparking enthusiastic bidding wars and contributing significantly to our fundraising efforts,” said Foley.

The total proceeds from the evening amounted to R13,115, all of which will go to the Boksburg SPCA to support their vital work in caring for animals in need.

“The support we received was truly overwhelming. Not only did attendees enjoy the quiz and auction, but many also brought food donations, further highlighting the community’s generosity.

“The funds raised will make a substantial difference for the Boksburg SPCA, ensuring that they can continue their mission of providing shelter and care for abandoned and mistreated animals.

“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who participated, donated, and helped organise the event. Your contributions have made a real impact, and we couldn’t have achieved this success without you. The spirit of Nelson Mandela Day shone brightly at Zorbas, reminding us all of the power of coming together for the greater good.

“Thank you for making this quiz night a memorable and impactful evening. Here’s to many more events that bring our community together and support worthy causes,” Foley added.

Boksburg SPCA secretary Sue Beadon expressed her gratitude to Zorbas and all the stakeholders who contributed to the success of the event.

“We are delighted. This was a wonderful end to Mandela Day,” said Beadon.
