Brave boy (8) loses fight against cancer

Jandré was diagnosed with cancer for the first time in 2019.

The brave boy from Boksburg, Jandré van Coller (8), will be remembered for always living life to the fullest.

Jandré lost his fight against cancer on July 17.

He was diagnosed with early precursor acute lymphoblastic leukaemia again on July 1.

The first time Jandré was diagnosed with cancer was in 2019.

Doctors in London suggested he be treated with two types of chemo, peg laspar and nelerabrine.

The treatment worked, and Jandré was in remission after a few months.

He then underwent a successful bone marrow transplant on October 30, 2019, and has remained healthy until recently.

Angélique, Jandré’s mother, said his condition deteriorated on July 16.

“They called me to the ICU on Wednesday morning. Jandré was in septic shock and his condition got worse so rapidly that we were advised to tell family members to say their goodbyes.”

Angélique said their hearts are broken.

“There are no words for the pain we feel. He was our brave little boy who did everything in full throttle and enjoyed a fuller life than most adults.

“We prayed and believed for a healed Jandré, and we received. God chose to heal him in death. He now has a new glorified body. He will never need to get chemo again, and he won’t have to endure another bone marrow transplant.

“We will mourn him for the rest of our lives, but we will celebrate his life,” said Angélique.

Jandré leaves behind his parents, brother, family and friends.

A service will be held for Jandré at AGS Brakpan Wes on July 23.
