Operation Shanela cracks down on crime in Reiger Park

Ekurhuleni district commissioner Major General Anna Sithole led a multi-agency operation in Reiger Park where fines were issued and several arrests made.

Ekurhuleni SAPS district commissioner Major General Anna Sithole, joined by senior management of SAPS and other law enforcement agencies, led the multi-disciplinary Operation Shanela in Reiger Park recently.

According to Sithole, Reiger Park is an area plagued by crime, and Operation Shanela aimed to curb this.

During the operation, the team made several arrests and issued fines:
• Twenty-three illegal immigrants were arrested.
• Five suspects were arrested for drugs.
• Four suspects were arrested for possession of illicit cigarettes.
• Three illegal shebeens were closed, and the team confiscated liquor.
• Thirty-eight traffic fines worth R18 300 were issued.
• One suspect was arrested for possession of a replica firearm.

The station commander, Lieutenant Colonel Bongani Dube, expressed gratitude for the operation, as the area was a hotspot for various criminal activities.

He stated the operation was a significant success in restoring order in the community.
