Do you know where Dewald Cronje is?

Cronje was working as a security guard at the time and was the first person to respond to the scene.

The Boksburg North SAPS needs help to track down Dewald Cronje who is set to testify in court about a business robbery that happened in Charl Cilliers Street, Boksburg North, on June 1, 2019.

According to the investigating officer, Detective Warrant Officer Willem van Aswegen, Cronje is due to testify at the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on May 15.

He explained Cronje was a reaction officer for a security company at the time and responded to the scene where three men robbed a pool table repair business that morning.
A scuffle ensued between Cronje and the robbers.

“During the commotion, a shot was fired, but nobody was injured. One of the suspects took Cronje’s firearm and tried to flee by jumping over a wall.

“However, in doing so he injured his leg and was subsequently arrested and police confiscated the firearm.”

Van Aswegen said the other two suspects got away.

He added the suspect, who was arrested, is charged with business robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, disarming a security officer, assault and trespassing.

“Cronje did not testify in the previous court appearance as he was supposed to. I have tried everything to track him down, from speaking to his previous employers and family members. He is nowhere to be found.

“It’s important for him to testify as it will have an impact on the outcome of the matter, Van Aswegen said.

Anybody with information regarding Cronje’s whereabouts should contact Detective Warrant Officer Van Aswegen on 082 377 3182.
