Winter Knights to bring warmth again

The table is urging the community to support the project.

Round Table Boksburg 17 has been helping thousands of underprivileged people through Round Table’s Winter Knights Project for more than a decade by collecting items such as beanies, scarves, blankets and non-perishable foods.

The table is ready to do it again this year and would like to help as many people as possible to overcome the biting cold.

According to Cuan Maizey, treasurer of the local table and chairperson of Round Table Gauteng, the project has gone from strength to strength over the years.
“Last year, we distributed blankets and food to the value of R16 000,” said Maizey, thanking those who contributed to the success.

Background
Winter Knights is a home-grown and hands-on Round Table Project, first adopted as an association alignment project in 2010.

The conceptualisation of Winter Knights originated in Scottburgh, when Tablers braved the cold for a few hours during the heart of winter, wearing only light clothing. In doing so, they experienced first-hand the burning cold suffered by many less fortunate citizens of our country.

The anticipation was that the community would donate blankets and previously loved clothing, which after being used to keep warm for the night would be donated to worthy causes in need of these items.

Winter Knights adapted and improved over the years, with many Tablers showing great initiative and forward-thinking in their approaches.

Concepts range from trolleys filled at shopping malls (R5 and R2 projects), door-to-door collections, corporate donations, and the creation of campaigns with big corporates and initiatives that evoke the passion of entire towns to rally behind the Winter Knights campaigns.

Donations for the local Table, can be dropped off at the Round Table Clubhouse at 32 Lancaster Road.
